Inaugural Road Rally 2009
Santa Monica Sports Car Clubs Starts off their Rally Season with
the Inaugural Rally February 28th, 2009
There is really nothing quite like running a rally for me. Running
a rally allows me to put all of my troubles, worries, and life on hold
for a few hours while all I think about is getting to the next checkpoint/
in-marker on time and in sequence. Road Rallies have been compared
to a giant board game where the board is the roads of the world.
One of my favorite rallies is put on by my wonderful friends
at the Santa Monica Sports Car Club (SMSCC).
This club has been putting on Rally events for longer than I
have been alive. They pretty much know how to do it, and do it well.
The style of rally that SMSCC puts on is called a TSD, this stands for
Time Speed Distance. An abbreviated description of a TSD rally is that
you are given a set of numbered instructions to follow. These
instructions include various tasks to perform including speed
what speed to travel, where to turn, and so forth. By following these
instructions you are to arrive at various checkpoints at specific times.
You are scored on your punctuality to the 100th of a second.
Well this year along with past years, the Santa Monica Sports Car Club
puts on the Inaugural Rally as the first rally of their season.
According to the flier, this rally will be a challenging trap TSD style
rally with some old favorites and some new twists. There will be an
inaugural leg, a Banana leg, and others.
The rally will take place on the highways and byways of Los Angeles
and Ventura Counties.
I myself can’t wait.
